Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Dissidia, FF13 will be probably be popular. You can gauge on what's popular by checking out the popular cosplays cropping up (check the con's forum at cosplay.com for example). Also any series with a strong yaoi fandom will generally sell well.

Hetalia, Vocaloid, Hitman Reborn, D Grayman, Soul Eater, Pokemonz might still be popular too. Games like Persona 3/4, Team Fortress 2, L4D, Mass Effect, Resident Evil, Phoenix Wright, Kingdom Hearts, Tales, Silent Hill might also sell well.

Now, if I were to ever buy something off you, I would buy 12 Kingdoms, Durarara, Baccano!, Ristorante Paradiso (OLD MEN YESSS), Escaflowne, Professor Layton, Odin Sphere, Muramasa and Okami. I saw that you wanted to do Mushishi too and I'd prolly eat that right up too D:

There's an artist who frequents the cons in the area I live in and he makes a shit ton of money every year just using the same prints over and over and charging 20 bucks for them. His dA is yanimator and he does single character shots from popular series and they're decently done. If you follow the same vein, you can probably make a lot of money. But if you're not in it to make money, then ignore what I said XD

I'm not in it to make a ton of money but I like to cover the cost of my trip. I go to cons to hang out with people really, lol. The truth is I don't usually do a lot of actual con stuff at cons, maybe fall asleep in a video room 4AM or something, but cons are a great excuse to get a bunch of friends together in a hotel room and do stupid shit at ungodly hours of the morning. That said, it takes a lot of effort to cover one's costs.

Thanks for all the series suggestions! I started watching Durarara, but now I am really interested in 12k after people have been mentioning it.

Yeah, that's the same reason I go to cons for too xD To meet friends I can't otherwise on a regular basis xD I hope some of the suggestins are useful, but honestly, if you draw a lot of stuff you actually enjoy instead of "selling out", you'll have a lot more motivation and fun aw well.

there is a shitton of popular things. it's hard to compete with something that is "popular" b/c artists who dodge tool will usually have the monopoly on that kinda stuff. honestly, when i go to cons, i bring it back old school and sell just as many with things people had almost forgotten, but still love and feel like they wont ever see another fan art of... xD that's my secret tip for you~ do something *not* popular.

That was actually what I was thinking of doing! My best pieces last year were Princess Tutu (a very active niche fandom) and Jin (Champloo... is still popular I guess?) so I figured I'd do stuff that was beloved but less popular. Unfortunately I am so out of touch with what those things actually are. I don't watch an overwhelming amount of anime. xD

Durarara and Baccano are pretty big right now. I personally like Deadman Wonderland, Bakuman, and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

I would buy you're prints either way though. I bought a bunch or your original stuff last year at Otakon and I would do it again~
