I guess it wasn't the merps after all. I started to get the same reaction, but it went away. I guess it was just brought on by eating the mango, which activated the allergy again, but since it wasn't the sap itself it didn't turn into a full blown case of nastiness. But does that mean I can never eat mango ever again!?
I got my first cold sore this time last year. I honestly locked myself in my room and cried and skipped all my classes for two days... then I googled it and found out how to beat it!
It's all about remaining alkaline(eat alkaline foods;spinach, grapefruit, soy, and avoid acidic ones;meat, dairy, 99% of fruits ect). After that; take a garlic oil pill daily(whether you're suffering through an outbreak or not, it's a great preventative measure) along with Lysine. Garlic is a natural anti-viral and Lysine is a soyprotien that shortens the outbreak and lessons its severity!
When I actually go get a cold sore, usually when I'm super stressed and eating poorly, I'll hit it with raw garlic and garlic oil. Once I start to feel the tingly itch of one I poke a hole in one of my garlic oil pills(make sure they're REAL garlic oil, and not garlic extract infused in sunflower seed oils or other oil) and use that as a lip balm until it clears... which it will do in a few days without ever getting to the stage of 'scabby gross sores'
That's my advice... random and long winded, but it's saved me a few times.
Wow, that's really good advice. I've never had an actual cold sore, but I had a very bad (cosmetic-wise, some people actually die from it) allergic reaction to mango skin/sap that ended up looking very, very nasty and rather cold sore-esque. It turns out that mangoes are in the sumac family (along with poison ivy), and people who have had bad reactions to poison ivy often find they have allergies to mango. The thing that worries me is that allergies are a cumulative thing... so since I had that reaction before (from stupidly eating the mango straight off the skin), I'm worried that now if I eat any mango at all my body will recognize it again and give me the awful reaction again. I never had problems with it before... And mango is delicious. ;_;
Anyway, my mother sometimes has problems with cold sores, I'll pass this along to her. Thanks for the advice!
CHRIST I cannot imagine not being able to eat mangoes, they are my favorite fruit.
But! As for rashes, rub your face over with baby wipes for itchiness. That works well for me, at least. I have no idea how to get rid of them completely, however, so I will suffice to transmit happiness rays through my computer screen. JUST LIKE HERBAL MEDICINE
You could be all "GUYS I GO HERPES FROM SOME BACK ALLEY WHORE" but then. that might make things a bit worse.. Hm. OH OH. HOW ABOUT. YOU.. ..are.. allergic to your cats. Yeah. And they.. gave you a rash. =L= BUT YOU KEEP THEM because they're strays and no one else wants them. Then people will be all "OH THAT LEAUNOIRE, SHE'S SUCH A GOOD SAMARITAN." And then they'd feel bad about themselves for not putting up with their allergies because they envy your strength in dealing with the aforementioned cat allergy! Yeah. Go with that. I am so smart. <:'l
Oh gosh I'm so sorry, I feel your pain! When I was younger I used to have cold sores too. Ughh. One time I had this big one just above the upper-lip, making me a nice red mustache XD That really is a young girl's best shot at popularity, let me tell you >__> Anyway I wish you good luck with that, may it not have a funny shape, and may it go away quickly!

EXCEPT NOT AT ALL
Make up a different story each time.
